AMSTERDAM 1928 - Bid History

  • After bids for the 1920 and 1924 Olympic Games, Amsterdam, Netherlands, was selected to host the 1928 Summer Olympics - over the objections of the Dutch monarch, Queen Wilhelmina, who thought the Olympics were a pagan festival. She refused to attend either the Opening or Closing ceremonies.
  • There was only one other candidate city - Los Angeles, USA, the next host city for the 1932 Olympics.
