STOCKHOLM 1912 - Bid History
- For the first time, Sweden applied to host the Olympic Games in 1894 at the IOC's first session, but Athens was named the host city 18 years earlier.
- On May 28, 1909, the IOC unanimously decided that the Games of the 5th Olympiad would be held in Stockholm, Sweden.
- Since the 1896 Olympics, it has been the first Olympic Games independent of any commercial exhibitions.

- His Majesty, King Gustav V of Sweden, officially opened the 1912 Olympics at the Olympic Stadium with a capacity of 32 thousand people.
- It was the first truly international Olympic Games - athletes arrived from all five continents.
- An electric time-taker for track and swimming events, photographic apparatus, and scoreboard were introduced.
- The International Amateur Athletic Federation (IAAF) was founded in Stockholm in 1912.
- The Swedish shooter Wilhelm CARLBERG won three gold and two silver medals.
- Another shooter, Alfred LANE from the USA, won three gold medals.
- Finnish runner Hannes KOLEHMAINEN won three gold and one silver medal.
