OSLO 1952 - Bid History

  • In June 1947, at the 40th session of the IOC in Stockholm, the IOC voted to accept the application and invitation from Oslo, Norway.
  • It was the first Winter Olympics in Norway, a Nordic country and the birthplace of the cross-country.
  • The other candidate cities were Lake Placid, USA and Cortina d'Ampezzo, Italy.
  • For the first time, Winter Olympics were held in a large city.
