PARIS 1900 - Bid History
- After the success of the 1st Olympiad, King George I of Greece and other Greek leaders believed that Athens should become the permanent host city of the Olympic Games.
- However, the IOC and Baron Pierre de Coubertin decided to rotate the host city every four years.
- In 1900, Paris, France hosted the Second Olympic Games as part of the popular World Fair.

- The Second Olympic Games, which spread over five months, were one of the events of the Exposition. These Games were so unnoted that many athletes died unaware they had been Olympians.
- It was the first time that female athletes took part in the Olympic Games. Tennis player Charlotte COOPER from the United Kingdom became the first woman in history to win an Olympic title.
- The stadium Velodrome de Vincennes near Paris became the main arena in the 1900 Olympiad. However, athletes in the track and field events competed at the Racing Club of France.
- The American athlete Alvin KRAENZLEIN won four gold medals in Athletics.
- The Swiss shooter Konrad STAHELI won three gold and one silver medal.
- The American Ray EWRY spent his childhood in a wheelchair after contracting polio. Through sheer willpower and exercise, Every not only overcame the disease but also became actively involved in sports. His persistence resulted in three gold medals in Athletics: standing high jump, long jump, and triple jump.
- Competition in Paris included shooting live pigeons, and nearly 300 birds were killed. It was the first and only time in Olympic history when animals were killed on purpose. Later, the IOC excluded these events from official reports.
